Piedmont Wine Tour with Arnie Milan!

April 28, 2009
We’ve just added a new wine tour for fall 2009 and as you wine connoisseurs know, not all wine tours are created equal. When researching wine tours, specifically in Italy, travel with an expert in the business and winery doors will open wide in welcome. Arnie Millan fits that bill. After the rousing success of the France wine tour, Arnie now sets off for Italy and the land of Barolo and Barbaresco.

In our signature Earthbound style, three-fourths of the meals are included and will feature delicious local specialties. There will be private tours and tastings in the Piedmontese wine cellars, cheese tastings with the producers, outings to local markets, even a truffle hunt! Arnie will also host a pre-tour wine-tasting soiree before departure, just to increase the anticipation.

Christmas in Strasbourg, France

April 27, 2009
Looking for a fun way to celebrate the holidays? Consider a trip to see the festive Christmas markets of Europe. Strasbourg, France is one of those cities that delights in dressing herself up with evergreen garlands and dangling chandeliers. The fun Christmas market sets up on the cathedral square and is comprised of booths filled with wares: holiday decor or potential gifts. Last year Matthew and I bought Venetian glass jewelry for all the ladies in our lives and they LOVED it. There is also wonderful food, hot, spiced wine to keep your chilly fingers warm while you shop, and much much more.

Strasbourg is a charming town with fabulous restaurants featuring local specialties. Because of Alsace's history of changing hands between France and Germany more than 4 times, the cuisine is a delicious combination of "German-style" ingredients and French finesse. Try the famous "tarte flambée," thin dough covered with crème fraiche and lardons, called "Flammeküeche" in German. Sauerkraut or "choucroute garnie" in French is also delicious and found everywhere. It's served with delicious sausages and ham and certain restaurants will substitute fish for the meat, then add a champagne sauce: only in France!

Culturally, Strasbourg fascinates with her gorgeous gothic cathedral and the wonderful Oeuvre Notre Dame Museum. There are several other museums and the city itself has stunning medieval architecture. Don't miss "petite France," a particularly charming section of Strasbourg with adorable half-timbered houses lining scenic canals.

Join our Winter Waltz with a French Twist and you can spend several days in Strasbourg and enjoy a classical music concert. Many people choose to make post-tour trips to Paris to finish up their shopping. Go to Europe and celebrate with food, friends and music and Earthbound Expeditions! www.earthboundexpeditions.com

Guilt Free Carbon Neutral Travel with Earthbound Expeditions!

April 15, 2009
Guilt Free Travel
Travel Carbon Neutral Through Earthbound's Partnership with the CarbonFund

For the conscious, eco-minded traveler, a trip abroad can propose a dilemma that leaves one feeling guilty about the size of the carbon footprint created by international travel. The dilemma of course, is that by traveling 5,000 miles to see the ice caps of Antarctica or the rain forests of Brazil, one is damaging the very place s/he has sought to preserve through personal efforts such as recycling, lowering consumption or joining a pro-environment organization.

Knowing that travel is a dream shared by many such environmentally conscious individuals, Earthbound Expeditions has partnered with the Carbonfund so thoughtful globetrotters can discover the world guilt-free while minimizing their carbon footprint and helping to preserve our precious planet. In 2009, Earthbound Expeditions will donate $25 to the Carbonfund for each individual participating on an Earthbound Expedition. Donated funds will be used to replant trees, purchase carbon credits and invest in renewable energy sources.

In addition to knowing that you are traveling Carbon Neutral, also note you'll travel for less as Carbonfund partners/ adventurers receive a discount of $150 off Earthbound Expeditions, remarkable small group journeys to Latin America and Europe!

Join Earthbound Expeditions for a food and wine journey to Italy, a historic adventure to stunning Croatia or take a walk on the wild side in Costa Rica.

Croatia in 2009 with Earthbound founder, Matthew Brumley

April 08, 2009
Just a quick note to let all Earthbounders know that I will once again be guiding the 2009 expedition to Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia and Montenegro. The tour dates are: September 22 to October 5-

The dates were purposefully chosen so that participants will be traveling to the old Yugoslavia during the shoulder season. This means of course that the crowds should be light and the weather still quite nice. I guided this trip in 2008 and found that most days were in the high 70sF with the exception of Plitvice National Park where it was quite cool.

Included in this very special itinerary: Private tours to wineries, ferry hopping in Dalmatia, tours of Diocletian’s palace in Split, an excursion to Mostar, Herzegovina’s capital city and of course three nights in stunning Dubrovnik !

Please join me for what will be an outstanding and in-depth expedition to the old Yugoslavia.

Costa Rica: The Perfect Family Vacation

April 08, 2009
Wow ! Is perhaps the best word to sum up our latest multi generational family vacation to Costa Rica. With an adventure around every corner there was something for everyone. The eight kids ranged from five to twelve years old and had multiple activities planned for them each day. The parents (and I was one of them) found the daily events equally enjoyable.

In a little less then two weeks we visited San Jose, the town of La Fortuna with its very active Volcano, the lush Cloud Forest of Monteverde, the secluded sun drenched beaches of Guanacaste and the vibrant green rain forest of Manual Antonio park. We spent three nights in most places. Our days generally began with a nature walk or trip to the beach.

In addition, we also walked in the canopy of the Cloud Forest on a suspended bridge, rafted through a mangrove forest, visited a butterfly garden, a hummingbird gallery and had our lunches stolen from some pretty lively White Faced Monkeys. After that, the iquanas moved in to finish up what the monkeys had left.

As a family (there is often 15 of us) we have toured Italy, Mexico, the Caribbean and Hawaii. But this last adventure to Central America was perhaps the best of them. It was the perfect family holiday. Part adventure, park educational and always fun.

As a parent of two children (ages five and eight) I can highly recommend a family trip to Costa Rica. The kids will remember their trip to Costa Rica for a life time!
